SUBJECT: Burma: democracy without borders

Although the U.S. made a big show of imposing sanctions on Burma, Chevron was "grandfathered" out (because it had already been doing business with the junta before sanctions were imposed). Chevron doesn't want to quit its lucrative Yadana stake.

Both the U.S. House and Senate have recently proposed bills (sponsored by Rep. Tom Lantos, D-Calif and Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz respectively) to force Chevron to quit paying taxes to the junta (and writing them off its U.S. taxes), which of course the President could veto.

Avaaz.org has sponsored a petition to turn off the gas fueling the junta (http://www.avaaz.org/en/burma_corporate/8.php/?cl=39392183). Please take a minute and sign the petition (and forward it to others): Please use the freedoms we have left--for however much longer they last--to help bring democracy to Burma! Thank you.
